We stock many different types of sunglasses so it could prove difficult for you to choose the right pair for you. This guide will identify which sun glasses will be best for you. If you're after sport sunglasses then you will need to make sure that you choose the correct frame and lenses. We offer the latest selection of sunglasses by brands such as Birdz, Bloc, Dior, Gucci, Oakley, Ray Ban.

The first step in selecting the suitable eyewear for you is decide on its main use such as sports, casual or driving. Will you be in bright sunlight? If so then perhaps polarised (or for our overseas customer polarized) sunglasses will be best for you. They cost a little more than non-polarised lenses but offer that extra bit of protection for your eyes.

Men typically wear larger frames than women but many designers make their frames unisex so that they may be worn by both sexes alike. Dior offer large framed unisex sunglasses.

Lens Curvature

To achieve different styles, looks and fits, different types of lens curves are available. These are rated by a number which represents the amount of curvature in the lens. The higher the number the higher the curve. Base 6 styles give a flatter look to the frame. Base 8-9 curves hug closer to the face. The V-Toric lens creates a unique look of it's own.

LENS MATERIALS

Polycarbonate

UV400 protection lurks beneath the dark exterior of these lenses. Polycarbonate lenses are usually distortion free, optically correct and have maximum scratch and shatter resistance.

CR-39

These lenses provide UV400 protection, superior scratch and impact resistance.

FRAME MATERIALS

Grilamid

These frames are made from tempered steel moulds. Grilamid nylon is flexible in all temperatures, shatter resistant and possesses a high memory to ensure the frame retains its shape and fit.

Handtooled Acetate

Acetate creates unique and rich colour combinations that are not possible through other materials. Each frame begins as a laminated sheet of acetate that is milled, shaped and then hand-formed to perfections. Optical quality hinges and logos are hand set. All frames are fitted with wire injected temple cores. The finished frame is meticulously hand polished and is registered to ensure a perfect fit.

Metal Alloy

Each signature frame features optical quality nickel silver metal alloy construction for strength, durability and a lightweight fit. Each frame is hand soldered and fitted with stainless steel, optical quality multi-barrel hinges, silicone nose pads and shape-able temples to allow for a custom fit.

Polarised Sunglass Guide

When sunlight reflects off water, snow or roads, it creates glare. These distracting reflections can obstruct your vision and be annoying and tiring to your eyes. Polarised lenses use a thin polarisation filter that blocks all evil glares reflected off water, roads or snow, allowing for truer colours and exceptional optical clarity. Polarised lenses can normally be found in glass or polycarbonate.

Glass polarised lenses

The ultimate in visual clarity. These lenses block 99.9% of glare while maintaining true colours and sharper images. Glass polarised lenses are composed of two layers of glass which are sandwiched around an ultra-thin polarised filter. A hard coating is added to the lens exterior for scratch resistance and two layers of anti-reflective coating are added to the interior surface.

Electric's Polycarbonate Polarized lens combines the high performance material polycarbonate, with the glare reducing features of an optical polarized filter. Electric's injected PC polar lens achieves 99% efficiency in blocking polarized light waves.

The polarized filter blocks light that can reflect off flat surfaces like water, snow or asphalt. These PC polarized lenses block 100% of the suns damaging UV rays, and provide exceptional glare reduction while maintaining excellent optical clarity.

Glass Polarized

Electric's Glass Polarized lenses offer the superior optical clarity of glass while achieving a 99.9% efficiency in blocking polarized light waves. The glass lens filter blocks light that can reflect of flat surfaces like water, snow or asphalt. Electric's glass lenses are manufactured in Italy with patented technology. At 2mm our tempered glass polarized lenses are half the thickness and half the weight of traditional glass polarized lenses.

Lenses - Polycarbonate

Electric's injected polycarbonate lenses block 100% of the suns damaging UV rays, UVA, UVB and UVC. Polycarbonate lenses are extremely lightweight, provide high impact resistance, and have excellent optical clarity.

Frames - Grilamid®

Grilamid® is a nylon compound that when heated and mould injected becomes the lightest, strongest plastic material available. Once Grilamid® is formed it has the amazing attribute of being flexible, but is able to maintain its original shape under all temperatures.

CURVATURE

The term base refers to the curvature of a lens or frame. The higher the base number, the more curvature or wrap of a frame/lens. The term toric refers to different horizontal and vertical base curves. This type of base curvature provides a more custom look and an improved wrap.

De-centered Lens Technology

Visual distortion occurs when light waves hit an aggressively curved lens causing them to refract. De-centered lenses correct this distortion by displacing the optical center of the lens. Through a properly de-centered lens, all light, regardless of what angle it hits the lens at, travels straight to the eye. This generates precise vision and reduces potential eye fatigue

Polycarbonate Lenses

CR-39 lenses are featured in many of Quiksilver's handmade acetate frames. This lens material combines fashion forward colourations and precise optics. CR-39 lenses compliment the rich colourations and details of handmade designs.

Grilamin TR90 Frames

Grilamid TR90 is a class of nylon known for resistance, elasticity and light weight. This injected-molded material allows for thin, flexible designs, is highly durable and resistant to aging. Grilamid frames are generally 20% lighter than handmade zyl acetate frames.

Zyl Acetate Frames

Zyl Acetate is a resin material used to craft Quiksilver's handmade designs. Zyl is known for its endless colours, patterns and texture possibilities. Zyl is the featured material in Quiksilver's limited fabric collection and offers a richer, dense finish.
